Frequently Asked Questions

How does SnapScript extract TikTok captions?

SnapScript reads the auto-generated caption tracks that TikTok embeds in each video. TikTok automatically generates captions for most videos. We extract those directly — no API key or login needed.

Does this work with any TikTok video?

It works with any public TikTok video that has auto-captions enabled. Most TikTok videos have auto-generated captions in the creator's language. Private videos and videos with captions explicitly disabled will not work.

Can I extract Instagram Reels captions?

Instagram Reel support is in beta. We can extract video metadata from public Reels, but Instagram does not expose caption files through their public API the same way TikTok does. This feature will improve over time.

What formats can I export the captions in?

You can export as plain text (just the words), timestamped text (each line prefixed with its time), SRT (industry-standard subtitle format), or WebVTT (web subtitle format used in HTML5 video).

Is there a limit on how many captions I can extract?

No. SnapScript is completely free with no rate limits, no account required, and no daily caps. Use it as much as you need.

Can I extract captions in languages other than English?

Yes. If the video has captions in multiple languages, you can select any available language from the dropdown in the toolbar. TikTok supports auto-captions in many languages worldwide.

How does the AI Summary feature work?

The AI Summary uses Google Gemini to analyze the caption text and generate a concise set of bullet points covering the key topics discussed in the video.

Why did YouTube support get removed?

YouTube blocks all cloud server IP addresses from fetching captions, making reliable server-side extraction impossible. We focused on TikTok and Instagram where extraction actually works.
